Pleural Thickening

“If you are suffering with pleural thickening as a result of working with asbestos, Lance Mason Solicitors may be able to help. We have a great deal of experience in dealing with claims just like yours.”

What Causes Pleural Phickening?

Pleural thickening can be caused by the condition asbestosis, which is a result of exposure to the mineral asbestos. The harmful fibres of asbestos can damage and thicken the lining of your lungs, reducing elasticity. In order to breathe, our lungs need to move outwards and inwards efficiently and a reduction in elasticity hinders them from doing so.

The fact that pleural thickening inhibits your lungs from working properly may result in you constantly feeling short of breath. Furthermore, there are other diseases which may develop as a result of pleural thickening, such as Mesothelioma, a rare form of lung cancer. This further highlights the severity of the condition as it can lead to other illnesses that may prove to be fatal.

What Are The Symptoms Of Pleural Thickening?

If you are suffering with pleural thickening, you may be experiencing the following symptoms:

  • A feeling of tightness in the chest
  • Feeling out of breath
  • General chest pain after physical activity

When it is believed that pleural thickening was caused as a result of exposure to asbestos, many sufferers choose to pursue a compensation claim. The amount of compensation you may receive is dependant on the severity of your symptoms, your financial losses and the prognosis.
